Sound: Powerful Voice over Quality Soul, Jazz/Blues and Gospel Influenced Music.
Album: Pot Of Gold (2008); And her other albums, Under the Menka Moon (2004) and My Favorite Letters (2005).
If you’d just listen to this woman, or if you’ve heard of her in the past, you already know why. The real question is, “Why isn’t this chick more popular?” Seriously. If you liked Amy Winehouse or Corinne Bailey Rae, or if you enjoy the soulful sounds of Sharon Jones and her Dap Kings, you seriously need to take a listen to this. Her voice is on par with each of the women I just named. And you’ll need to pay attention. With beautifully written lyrics behind that amazingly soulful voice of hers, it makes her albums FUN to listen to. Her voice control, vibrato, expression… its wonderful and refreshing. And she really goes in on her cover of Gnarles Barkley’s “Crazy.” I’m hooked and I can’t let go. I’m just mad I didn’t get to her sooner.
Songs you need to check out: “Sweet is the Air,” “Tired Little One (Acoustic Version),” “Taking Hold” and “Living The Life of a Dreamer.”
My Favorite, “Let Us Be Loving…” should be the theme song of Earth.
Here are a couple of videos Alice did with my Boys from The Park, Alice’s backing band when she’s in the US.
It was their awesome that made me aware of her awesome.
Please, remember me when she gets huge. One day.
