*Updated: Oh. So THIS is what Res has been up to.

Well there she goes.

So after randomly asking my music nerdy friends about Res, and where the hell she’s been lately… I got a surprising answer. Not only has she been at work with Talib Kweli and Idle Warship (I knew about that), but it also looks like she’s finally set some time aside to do some solo mixtape work. 8 years after dropping “How I Do,” Res makes a return with Black Girls Rock… an album that combines soul music with rock tendencies to make a beautiful mix of music. A great effort by Res, who has obviously been working on her lyrical game… and seems to be taking her time finding her niche. It’s hard when you have a voice and a style that is unique and interesting, but “unmarketable” by some standards. Why? I don’t know. Well, we DO know, but… you know. :

You can check out the download for the mixtape here. Meanwhile, I’ll have a quick YouTube appreciation moment:

i absolutely love this album. she is criminally slept on. after years of only having the how i do album to listen to, i was very happy when she dropped both the idle warship and this in a short timeframe.
