Summerjam Alert and Sample Appreciation Post: Joanna Newsom | The Book of Right-On = The Roots | Right On. Praise Musical Jebus.

I’m not going to say a whole lot on this, because I have intentions on giving this album a full blog, based on the overwhelming amount of awesome that has come from it. But I do want to say this. I’ve talked about Joanna here previously. Shes great. But I never thought I would hear her in such an amazing format, with an amazingly done sample done by The Legendary Roots Crew. And I don’t know how you could flip her voice, being that she’s got one of those special tone, nasally, folksy sounding songs. But they did it.
Harps and Hip Hop. The sh*t needs to happen more often, frankly.

A lot of people are frankly freaking out on who Joanna is and where this sample came from, so this is where I like to step in and help out a bit.

This is where it all starts… The Book of Right On from Joanna’s 2004 Album, “The Milk Eyed Mender.” This is the awesome live version done on Jools Holland.

That must have caught someones attention in the Roots Crew (probably ?uestlove), which let to the awesome flip you have below.

Honestly, one of the best songs on the album. The most upbeat of the songs on the album, and most accessible. Who woulda thought you could make Joanna Newsom accessible. lol.

Please Enjoy. And go buy this album. BUY IT. STOP DOWNLOADING. You seriously need this in your life.
