Cee-Lo just changed my entire life with his new single, “Fuck You.”

This will be a short blog, but it must be posted; simply based on the strength of its awesome.

After taking a brief break following his last supercreation with DJ/Producer Danger Mouse, Cee-Lo has completed his new album, titled “Lady Killer….” and he’s back to push the boundaries of  Hip Hop music (Goodie Mob; Outkast)… but he pushes the boundaries and your ideals of what Soul, Retro and Pop-Rock are too.

Currently the greatest song in the history of the world, “Fuck You” is a wonderful combination of the classic Pop-Infused, Retro Soul formula and updated, upfront, fairly harsh, keepin it 100% real witdatass lyrics dedicated to that gold digging bitch you shouldn’t have fallen in love with, and her basic, trickin’ ways. There is basically nothing I can say to describe the greatness that is this song. You just need to listen to it.

Since he’s currently at work at social networking and a Full Video, Cee-Lo has hit us with the temporary Lyric (teaser) Video, breaking down every “Fuck You” for you to see.

Awesome! :D Really describes my life at the moment. :)

    • E

seriously. everyone can relate to this song in SOME way. its amazing.

  • http://bearloveskitten.wordpress.com Serban

Wow, indeed. I used to be “not sure if want” with this guy, but the awesomeness present within this piece of musical win converted me. Arr, time to don my eye-patch and my shoulder parrot.

    • E

i mean, this song is made of win. you gotta appreciate it. lol.

  • Nita

Honesty in music without worries of what people think of you is a gift, especially a man talking about his emotions for a woman who dis owned that he loves. This is a classic way to talk about a dealing with love. Cee lo is a Musical Guru. I am definely getting that album!

    • E

good to know that musicians arent scared to express themselves without worrying about radio airplay. love your thoughts on that. thanks for stopping by. :D

      • zwenkwiel

that’s probably why they made a censored version replacing the “fuck you” with “forget you”
        which doesn’t even make sense

totally ruins an otherwise awesome song, but hey money talks
and not like the retarded censorship is really his fault.

        • E

you should see the version he did on The Colbert Show. lol.
and yeah. you knew Fuck You wasnt gonna fly on commerical radio. lol.

  • Great song

Just turned into a convert. Amazing.

    • E

i am here to convert you to The Church of Great Music. welcome. :)

  • Lucien

Thank you. and thank you to Taylor for stumbling it. this is gold.

    • E

thank YOU for coming by. youre appreciated.

  • http://ohherro.blogspot.com/ swb.

Totally digging the song, but I have to wonder: With the amount of money that Cee-Lo is making, who is he losing his girls to?

    • E

im sure this is all metaphorical and theoretical. lmao.

      • http://ohherro.blogspot.com/ swb.

Theoretical? maybe. metaphorical? I hope not. The appeal of this song is how literal it is, so to lose that would lose a huge part of the song (at least for me).

So either, P Diddy is rollin in and poaching Cee-Lo’s ladies or (more likely) it’s probably a reference to a girl he lost when he was younger and poorer.

Or…what if HE is the asshole who took someone else’s girl?

  • Kwizz

You ever seen the movie,Idiocracy? Where the english language is just dumbed down to appeal lowest form that relates to the general public, and people are named after food products and corporations… Yeah, that’s what this title is… Im sure he was trying to be edgy, but it’s not edgy, in fact it has the feel of trying too hard TO be edgy….. that aside, good song, change the title, make some money with it =)

    • E

      ill take this one on.

Really, i think its the opposite. I think its a really simple, catchy pop tune that just happens to have a powerful theme and an even more powerful hook/title to it, which seems to contrast with each other beautifully. I dont think he was trying TOO hard at all. I think what makes it cool is it seems like he wasnt trying AT ALL to make this song the awesome that it is. Like the hook came really really naturally.

As for making money… come on. The biggest question about this song right now is how they are going to even EDIT it for play. Theres money to be made off this song, but not commercially. lolz.

  • Mind Blown!

Omg that was total fucking win, both the song and the blog. Awesome. My life has now changed as well.

    • E

so glad you liked it. thanks.

  • Ben

I have to say, I found this song through Stumble Upon and I have to say, I immediately purchased this song in iTunes! It really is both hilarious and an amazingly catchy song… Already telling all of my friends about this song! Look forward to see what else Cee-Lo has to offer!

  • Logan

I had never heard of this guy and now I want to hear all his songs. This peice of music is possibly the most catchy truthful and awesome song ever made!

    • E

you have heard of Cee-Lo Green before… If youve heard of Gnarles Barkley and the song “Crazy.”

  • Tyler Tejada

Wow. This is one of the most amazing songs I’ve heard the guys voice is awesome and so is the energy of the song. but holy shit the lyrics are so damn true. I CAN RELATE!

  • Bazza

When I first found this song I was like hoooooshit. Usually I don’t even listen to this kind of music, but Cee-Lo just makes everything so pimp it’s hard not to.

  • Stanious

I thought you were being sarcastic(having never heard the song before)but after listening to it its actuallly pretty damn good!Wouldn’t usually be the kind of music i listen to but the message is pretty fucking cool!

    • E

oh no. no sarcasm when it comes to my music. LOL.

  • Tim

i genuinely thought i wouldnt like this, but its actually amazing!

  • http://halla.com Chris

at first i thought it was gonna suck big balls, yo this shits great, Fuck you Fuck you and fuck her too!

    • E

i try to bring you nothing but the hot shit.

  • logan

Cee-lo didn’t write this song, bruno mars did…credit where credit is due. For Bruno Mars, his credit (card) is probably right next to the lines of coke he was chopping up in that club bathroom

    • E

How about this. Bruno Mars is a total fucking Cokehead Midgetboy who could have never done this song the justice that Cee-Lo did because hes too busy doing lines of blow. I did not know he wrote this song until a few days ago; this post was made a day after the song was released to YouTube, and no one had ANY info on it. I thought about editing to credit him, but then I found out he caught a felony, and yeah. No thanks.

  • Kevin

The song is definitely a good one, but life changing? I would disagree.

Sure the message is relate-able, but hasn’t the same thing been said before? Some guy gets dumped by a girl who just wants money. Poor guy.

Though, I would agree that the combination of Soul influenced pop and matter-of-fact lyrics is intriguing. But, at the same time, I feel like Cee-Lo lends himself to doing this type of thing anyway. What with his sometimes sultry voice/vocal range and his rap tendencies.

I do think this song is a good one though. Just to be clear.

    • Kevin

P.S. I’ve heard the song before, but stumbled on to your site and thought I’d chime in. haha

P.P.S. I appreciate the way you write E!

P.P.P.S. Is it wrong of me to like the typography video more than the official video?

      • E

        1. thanks for stumbling.
        2. thank you.
        3. NOPE! i feel the same way. :D

    • E

nah. it didnt REALLY change my life… its just a way i love to write in order to emphasize the point of how awesome the song is. lets just be clear. lol.

  • Tom

I wasn’t a big fan tbh but I am sure it appeals to others. It seemed a little childish to me, good singer though

  • Monica Gendy

I heard this song like 3 weeks ago in the radio and I was like wow, and then i stumbled on it, and listening to it over and over makes me realize that almost everyone i know can relate to this song. Its awesome!

    • E

universal and awesome in everyway. love it.

  • Jim Boonie

Cool tune. Sounds like it could come from the soundtrack of Dreamgirls. Certainly not the first song called, “Fuck you”. There is a great one by Lilly Allen that came out a couple years ago that I like, too. I like Cee Lo, though. He is uncompromising.

  • http://birgus61.wordpress.com birgus61

    Sweet song. : )

  • bobbie

yay i just stumbled this, i love this song but wasnt sure who sang and of course the radio edit was “forget you” so googling it didnt get me anywhere :P

    • E

haha. nice. glad i could help you out with this one. :D

  • gail

i stumbled this post.. and wow! thanks..

    • E

definintely not a problem. thanks for stopping by.

  • dan

Ha, had only heard this on the radio as “Forget You”.
Thought it was a great song anyway, but this is even better !!!

God i must be getting old, i used to ON TOP of this type of shit.

    • E

lol. i feel the same way about music sometimes. i should always be on top of everything. youre not getting old. im just here to help you out with that. lol ;)

  • Alan

    I ‘Stumbled Upon’ this.

Claiming that his song is the “Currently the greatest song in the history of the world” is a load of bullshit. I know it’s solely opinion based, but honestly.
You may be able to relate to his lyrics, but they’re not too great at all. Relation to a song in no way contributes to how musicaly good it is.
He’s a good vocalist, but his voice is far too high pitched and whiney.
Thirdly, his album, in my opinion, doesn’t once touch the genre of Rock.

    • E

you care way too much and sound absolutely miserable with this reply.
      just thought you should know.
you should see somebody about that.
      Thanks.

      • Alan

Ah, I see. So you’re one of them guys who insults people with valid points because he can’t argue his case? I find it ironic how you accuse other’s of being pathetic internet trolls and then goes ahead and comments like that.

If you can’t handle someone having a different opinion to you, I’d advise staying off the internet.

I look forward to yet another stupid response.

        • E

^^^^this is why you never indulge a troll.
          *sigh*

there are 74 replies in here. and some that dont agree with what i said. read through it.
notice how everyone else got a decent response except you?
its because youre a fucking troll. and i can see your trolling a mile away. and now youre mad because i called you out on it.
you have one more time to present your arguement in a manner where you dont look like a pathetic, whiney 3 year old bitch.
if not, you hit the spam and ban box from this point.

          thanks.

      • Alan

Wait, what? Accusing someone of being a troll doesn’t make it true at all.

You’re right, there are 74 Comments here. Only 1 of which disagrees with you. And I’m guessing the only reason you didn’t respond in this way to him is that he complimented you about your stle of writing. Just an educated guess, though.

Everyone but me has made a decent comment? You mean most of the people agree with you? Most of the comments are 1 lined. I know quantity has nothing to do with it, but still. If someone says ‘Great Song’ or ‘Awesome Song’, you could atleast explain as to why you think that. That’d be a decent response, in my opinion. The member “Chris” even said “I lost the game”. How could you call that decent?

Again, I’m not a Troll. It’s almost impossible to decipher one’s true emotions through typed up text. I haven’t once gotten angry through this entire exchange.

I’ve already presented my argument in a valid way. And I’d apreciate if you’d do the same. You know, maybe argue your case against me?

        Thanks.

        • E

several places where you failed. then well call this a day.
*your intial comment, whether you know it or not, was whiney and degrading. when i read people who type out tripe such as you did, i really have no further interest in what they have to say, as it seems as if their personal problems have come in the way of being able to express themselves without sounding like a moody bitch.
*there are at least 7 to 10 comments in here that werent really feeling the song. and i engaged them all. read before you accuse.
*you see your argument as valid, i see it as trolly. you took the title of the blog and the song way too serious. so just go ahead and hate the song and blog. im not going to waste my time trying to convince you. seriously.

          do better.

      • Alan

        1) How something is typed and how you take it are completely different things. I’m sorry that you take my argument as whiney and disregarding, but I never intended it to be that way. I’m not sure what problems you have with it. That’s just how I type. Also, if you have interest in what they say, there is no need to respond. And even if you do, you should probably avoid insulting them. I think if you call them a moody bitch after lashing out, you’ll find yourself looking like a bit of a hypocrite.

        2) Could you tell me who made these comments? Because I could honestly only find one.

        3) Once again, I’m not a troll. A troll would make comments on every single grammar and spelling error you’ve made. He’d simply comment “LOL” or “Fag”, things along those lines. And how do you expect me to take the Blog title and Song? If you type “changed my entire life”, then I’m going to expect that it has changed your entire life. What eles? I know the song isn’t supposed to be all serious, but that doesn’t mean it can’t have good lyrics. The lyrics aren’t horrible, they’re just not very good. I don’t hate the song neither. I’m just saying it’s not life changing, and it’s not amazing. It’s a vaguely catchy, nice tune. Nothing more, nothing less. I don’t hate the Blog neither. Why would I? Why would I hate someone speaking their opinion?

You’re still not understanding what I meant by arguing your case. I meant that you’d make a counter-argument to the points I made against your thought on this song. I’d really apreciate it.

        Thanks.

        • E

you dont seem to get that id love to engage your statement and argue the case if you didnt come at me in such a bitchlike manner.

watch how you speak to people.
          that includes the internets.

      • Alan

Just go ahead. It’s not like how I approach an argument should stop you from speaking your opinion now, should it?

Honestly, I’ve never come across someone who had such a problem with the language or the way I come about getting my point across.

        • E

iont know dude. it just sounded really trolly and offensive.
it didnt seem like you wanted to discuss anything. seemed like you were ready to insult everything.
          im just saying.

        • E

okay sure. but heres the thing.
if you dont like something, im not going to sit here and try to convince you of why its cool.
it usually doesnt go well anyways.

my theory? if you dont like it, just move on and find something you DO like.
          lol.

      • Alan

Well, that wasn’t my intent. And I’m sorry if I came off that way.

And I do want to discuss this. So then, how about it?

      • Alan

There is very little reason to post your opinion like this on the internet if you’re not willing to convince people as to why you like it, or why you think it’s so amazing.

So from what I can gather, you’re essentialy saying if I have nothing good to say, I shouldn’t say anything at all? That I should just search for something I do like and comment on that?

        Looking forwards to your explanation.

        • E

yeah. im a firm believer in the “if you dont like it, STFU” law.
its like this. if something doesnt move you, then it might not be for you. especially with music, since its so subjective.
and theres a huge reason to post my opinion to the internet. tons of others might share my opinion, then we can build on it. you know?
if you dont like it, we dont have to build… but your welcome to go thru my past posts and see if theres anything you DO like. lol.

      • Alan

What I’m arguing is that Cee-Lo isn’t an extra-ordinary artist. And that his music isn’t all that life changing. The reason I posted my initial comment is because I wanted to know why, to you, was it life changing. And what aspects of Cee-Lo’s voice, or just the man himself, you find so amazing.

I get your point, and I do think that my cinnebt about there being little to no reason to post an opinion if you’re not willing to argue it. But even so, when someone else does you could atleast try.

I’m entirely against that. I don’t think if you have nothing good to say you shouldn’t say anything at all. I mean, if it’s something like ‘lolgay’ or ‘Gay Song’, then they shouldn’t comment. But other than that, everyone should speak their mind.

I don’t want to sound like an asshole – But I’m still waiting on that response.

        • E

okay. see, heres the thing with arguing that.
you took the title of this blog in a real, literal way… when i just meant it to be over exaggerating in a hilarious/joking way. most people got that.
it didnt change my life. but to me, and the other 90 jillion responders on this page, it was pretty awesome.

now if you do want basis for Cee-Lo’s awesome and why i think hes cool, i do want to point out that Cee-lo is not new to this at all… having done several previous solo albums, guest appearances on outkast albums and his own group, “Goodie Mob,” which is where it all got started. so he does have a history of making fairly awesome music. at least 20 years at this point. (google it). his voice is a high falsetto for a male… especially someone with a background in Hip Hop… but on the right track, he sounds great.

now heres the thing i invite you to think about. especially to understand my point of calling you a troll earlier (sorry).
everyone else loves it. and im talking about EVERYONE. (not really, but yeah.)
so why are you so mad about it… and if youre not feeling it, why waste time trying to discuss why youre not liking it? its probably not going to change. i mean, speaking up when you dont like something is important in say like… a life changing situation. but when it comes to music? its just gonna start a whole buncha useless arguing (most of the time). and people who wanna argue about “why i dont like this/this isnt cool/my music is better” are usually angry trolls who run around violating the internets. now rather than complain about a song you dont like… why not find something you DO like and say “hey. now i think THIS song is jammin. check this out.” at least i get an ideal of what youre into.

theres so much music out there. you dont need to argue about the stuff you dont enjoy.
dont sweat the small stuff, i guess is what im tryinta get into.

im all for intelligent dialogue and diverse and broad discourse about music and whatnot. but im not gonna sit here and try to convince you to like something you CLEARLY dont like; and im not going to sit here and do TOO much explaining on why i enjoy what i enjoy. it is what it is. ima just put it out there. if you like it, GREAT! if not, thats cool… but tell me something you DO like instead, at least.

          …..is all im sayin.

  • Steve

I wanted so bad not to like this. But it really is kinda catchy. “Currently the greatest song in the history of the world” IS a bit of a stretch though. I will have to listen to it a few more times the next few days. Thanks E!!

    • E

Please people. Dont let my Hyper Over-Titles distract you from the point that its a good song. LOL.

      Thanks for stopping by. :D

  • eljay

With hiphop, my reaction is usually either love or hate and hate is the most frequent response. I gave it a try because you mentioned Outkast and they have gotten a LOVE response from me before.

And then I watched the vid (on Youtube because they won’t let it play from the embed, btw) and sent it on with the caption “Best. Song. EVAH.”

Thanks for bringing it to my attention! ;)

  • E

this is the kind of angry reply that comes from pathetic, internet trolling drama whores/men who havent had pussy or a functional relationship in a while make. spammed away. but thanks for stopping by! :D
