Another wonderful show, another wonderful experience, another randomly awesome story.
A couple of weeks ago, I checked the network and saw that Mayer Hawthorne was coming into town. Initially I was excited to see if I could get to it. I’ve been a long time fan (as most of you already know here), and have yet to see him live. But after realizing that several of my friends/concert buddies would be busy and wouldn’t be able to come with me, I would be about a week out of jaw surgery… and onslaught of deadlines, I kinda ruled it out. I was sad, but I realized there was work to do.
That was until my good friends (@MOSologist) and @JacksonPerry talked me into entering their Mazda 2 contest that was connected to the tour. They did the marketing for the Concert, and signing up would be basically helping out friends with business. How could I say no? Figuring the chances of me actually WINNING this thing were REALLY slim, I signed up as a good look for my people. Anything I can do to help is the motto, basically.
Welp, that must be a wonderful motto to hold onto… because I actually WON this contest. LMAO. Amazing. I actually found out the same day that I went to see Conan’s first show for the second time. (Yeah. You like that.) And after letting my friend know that I had actually won… they went the extra step and made sure I was well taken care of at the show. And I’ll always appreciate that. Especially post mouth surgery.
In short: Great show, Wonderful night. My first Mayer Hawthorne show and I am impressed. One of those concert shows and presentations that makes you appreciate the music more in Live format than you do Album format. Songs come alive and sound different with the amazing band he has behind him (also known as The County). Energetic, engaging and genuine. Debuted 3 new songs at the show for the audience. Also had his dancers from his video “Your Easy Lovin Ain’t Pleasin’ Nothin’” on stage with him as background dancers (adorable), as well as some witty stage banter for an all around entertaining show. Both the Pre-Show and After Party set ups were very nice, with Mayer signing items for fans (Got the CD signed for the physical format win), and DJ’ing after the show with his friends and business partners around. He was also sweet enough to connect me to Quincy, the only person who might be able to transpose “I Wish It Would Rain” to Piano Sheet Music for me (get on that man, I need that “authentic” sound). A productive night, with Seth Green, DJ Babu and Esperanza Spalding roaming around a great afterparty for the overall win.
Here go your photos. I think I did decent with my Droid and its 5 megapixels. And the video for Mayer Hawthorne’s Your Easy Lovin Ain’t Pleasin Nothin’. Shoutout to Olivia Orozco for your amazing choreography. You are a winner girl.
