e: dude, remember how alanis was the end all be all of LIFE? we were getting MONEY off that site tho
sandra: dude when i think about it you were way ahead of your time back then. it was like 1994 and you had the internet at your house and you and your internet friends were running a fansite for alanis
sandra: bitch you are futuristic. you were doing what you do NOW back in 1995. listening to obscure rock no one knows about but always got popular anyways. it was like 2010 at your house in like… 1994 girl wtf

e: LMFAOOMGWTF
e: yeah you fuckers never knew WTF was going on with my music collection yo. like, ‘listen to PJ Harvey!’ and shit

e: LOL you know i suck at lists family, why you even ask me to do that.  i love my 90s rock, i could never sit there and really try to list it off. id forget something and hate myself for it. you know how i am
sandra: dude fuck all that. theres no deadline with the list. take your time. you got 90% of the stuff you usta listen to in your bedroom in that CD bookshelf. just go thru it, take your time, and post it up
sandra: if you dont, im gonna irritate the shit outta you until you do
e: whatever dude youre gonna make me mess up my steak, ima BRB

….and that’s how THIS got started right here.
Music Nerdery’s List of Awesome (Yet Openly Subjective) 90s Rock that I LOVED.
In absolutely no order.
Most of it I still listen to, unless otherwise noted.
Here’s the rule: If I’m not listening to it now, I probably wasnt listening to it then.
This ended up being much more research and much more fun than I really wanted it to be.
lolz.

Here We Go:

*Alanis Morisette (Get at me, alanis.com’ers. I know you’re still out there.)
*Social Distortion (…story of my life.)
*Mr. Bungles

more where that came from.

*Rage Against The Machine (Attended the DNC Show/Riot and their last show at the Olympic Auditorium. I then proceeded to almost die at Coachella 2007. And it was worth it.)
*Red Hot Chili Peppers
*Save Ferris (the original No Doubt)
*Soundgarden
*STP
*Green Day (at school, the only thing cooler than having Snoop Dogg’s “Doggystyle” was Green Day’s “Dookie.”)
*Pixies
*Primus
*The Cranberries (…do you HAVE to let it linger?)
*Sublime
*Nirvana (…just because you’re paranoid…. don’t mean their not after you.)
*Oasis (not so much anymore… can’t find their albums. :( )
*Garbage (…you stupid girl.)
*Counting Crows

That 1992 stuff.

*No Doubt (the Ska’ed out version)
*Bush (nope. not listening anymore.)
*Hole (If it’s not Melissa Auf der Maur-Involved, “Celebrity Skin” Hole, it’s not hole.)
*Pearl Jam
*Grandaddy (oh I thought I was SO indie and SO cool.)
*Tori Amos (Little Earthquakes… Thanks Som.)
*Offspring (nope. Haven’t listened in a while.)
*Radiohead
*Chris Issak (YEAH I SAID IT)
*The Smashing Pumpkins (…that we don’t even care…. as restless as we are)
*Sevendust (…When’s a good time for the end? Who said I was YOUR friend?)
*311
*Buckethead (my original Kaki King)
*Incubus (Yeah people. Incubus is circa ’94/’96. Probably still my longtime favorite.)

Man, that was good music.

*Fiona Apple (Tidal. OMG.)
*Bjork (I knew she was dope when she whooped that journalists’ ass who had been following her all over the Globe. Someones gotta have a .gif.)
*Wilco
*Korn (Anything before “Issues” still gets played regularly.)
*Jewell
*Deftones (still going.)
*Beck
*NIN (Closer. The Maxwell Version. YOUTUBE IT.)
*Bif Naked (Because if you were feeling Alanis, you had to be feeling Bif.)
*The Brian Setzer Orchestra (Finally, retro starts making a REAL comeback, and this dude is NO WHERE to be found. Dammit.)
*Dave Matthews Band
*Marilyn Manson (The Beautiful People. All Day.)
*Everclear (…so much for the Afterglow.)
*Death Cab For Cutie (has it really been since 1995? Woow.)
*Sarah McLaughlan
*Paula Cole Band (IONTWANNAWAIT! For our LIIIIIVES to be OVERRR!)
*Foo Fighters
*Sheryl Crow (all I wanna do! is have some FUN!)
*QOTSA (They call it Stoner Rock. I call it Awesome Rock.)

CD barely plays anymore. lol.

*Third Eye Blind (nothing you’ve done comes close to their first album. Before all the fall out. I’ll ignore the fact they cant play live for shit.)

Shoutout to the Bands that came late in the 90s, and are in that kinda grey area as for “90′s” rock…
*Coldplay (interestingly enough… havent listened much passed rush of blood/X&Y.)
*Matchbox 20 (yeah, I still have that album.)
*Blur
*The Cardigans
*Ben Folds Five
*Marcy Playground
*The Verve (fuck yeah the song they stole from the rolling stones is still awesome. lmao.)
*Eve 6
*AAF (their cover of Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal” is legend.)
*SOAD
*Powerman 5000
*Sixpence None The Richer (kiss me!)

I know for a FACT that YOU DONT HAVE THIS.

*Filter (…cuz you wanna take my pictuuuure…. cuz I wont remember….)
*Dandy Warhols

Shoutout to things that don’t fit into the equation but were still getting played anyways like:
*Daft Punk
*The Prodigy
*Kraftwerk
*Paul Oakenfield
*Massive Attack
*Kathleen Battle
*Three Tenors (they were dope in the 80s/early 90s tho)
*Wynton Marsalis
*Cheech and Chong
*Bob Marley
*Led Zepplin/Pink Floyd
*The Roots
*Anita Baker, Chante Moore, ect.

Welp, there you go.
I just relived Junior High, High School and the first Year of College all in one post.
Awesome.
Enjoy my pointless list, argue about it, bring up a band YOU loved that I missed, engage conversation, leave a comment, go make a list of your own.

Yeah. I've got some OLD stuff.

Wow, this list brought the 90s flooding back. I used to be obsessed with Everclear – I even kept listening to them in the 2000s, when their albums became a little awful.

I still listen to the Deftones, NIN, Hole, Smashing Pumpkins, Korn, RATM, STP, Incubus & Fiona Apple like it’s my job.

Everclear’s first 2 albums were great. Then they let their sound get dated and the music scene changed, as it always does.

Incubus and Fiona Apple. I think I just played that shit today. LOL.
