Spank Rock. Just wow. Its really weird right now… Iont even know who this kid is, really… and this doesn’t even seem like what I would be into normally. Its actually constructed of some of the very things I hate… glorification of all things unnecessary, stupid and raunchy over what might normally be considered techno party beats. Despite everything going against him… for some reason this little fucker is fast becoming one of my favorite… somethings.
And then… there’s the title of the album alone. I’ll admit, the title ALONE is the ONLY THING that brought me to this dudes music. How can you not relate to “Everything is Boring and Everyone is a Fucking Liar?” A hell of an album title to catch peoples attention (and it worked). So after asking the internets and getting my boy CarolinaWare to hit me up with more info and some links… I really have to say that this kid right here? He does not suck. It might be party orientated, ass-shaking, ignorant glory, but even in party mode, this kid occasionally hits you with music techniques and phrasing that or a lyric that lets you know hes paying attention to what hes doing. Lines like “Understand that nowadays/life moves so fast you gotta act twice your age” and “I hate my generation: everyone wants something for nothing” along with other poignant, truthy moments show that theres someone with probable amounts of intelligence under all that obnoxiousness, regardless of how many times he can say pussy in a song.
In short, If I’m going to listen to ignorant Party Musics, this is how I’m doing it.
I started with CarolinaWare’s choice of Spank Rock mixtape with Benny Blanco: Bangers and Cash. Their dedication to the awesome scary and sex-drenched 2 Live Crew (and possibly, Tango and Cash). And I have to say, they channel them quite nicely. Listen to some of the tracks below, and click that link above to download.
And if youre impressed with that…. I figured out how to get his album stream embedded to my site (FINALLY). You can listen to the whole thing below. Then tell me what you think.
Enjoy.
