I’m back, and it looks like I’m going to change things up a little bit. Come talk to me for a minute.

The more things change, the more things stay the same.

Welp, I’m back. Praise Music Jebus for being able to log off and not care about things once in a while. Really needed to do that. And I really appreciate any of you out there who read this thing regularly for allowing me the time to disappear for a while. With that said, now we can get back to business.

Its about time for me to reformat how I approach my writing for the nerdery from here. There are some small changes happening to the site you may or may not see, along with some more ads popping up from time to time (get money). Mostly I have to reconsider how I write for time management reasons… my job is my priority and its where my focus will stay. I also want to add more personal commentary on not just music and albums, but thoughtspop culture in general. Perhaps insight on where all the fun is in the general Los Angeles.

And yes, for those who know, I will be keeping a detailed log on what Tour Life may or may not be like, once that (God willing) starts. I’m also shooting for more comments. My Disqus system was down for a while and it kinda cockblocked my movement. Everything’s wonderful now and I’d love it if youd leave your thoughts from time to time. Regardless of what I’m doing here, I’m just aiming at being better and having more fun.

Meanwhile, I’d really would love it your thoughts on what you like and dont like… what I can work on and what doesnt really matter. If you’re still out there and you still give a shit, I’d really appreciate a comment or two.

What have I been up to? Well, in short:
Saw VV Brown live at Hotel Cafe. Did songs from the new album, and it sounds really good.
Saw Grouplove at The El Rey. I’m really glad I went.
Saw BB King for the 90th time.
Saw Cyndi Lauper for the 1st time.
Long Beach Comicon was fun. Got to see Kenny Keil and action.
…and a lot of interviews youll see popping up shortly.

Thats about it.
Now back to the music.

Welp, thats about it kids. Talk to you soon I hope.

BB King 90 times? That’s impressive. And, slightly crazy.

You have the domain, you are the one in command. Whatever you want it to be, whatever you want to (re)present, do so.  I often have the same issues with my site.  My site has never been about “my music”, the name of my site is meant to represent what I listen to, what I do, my interests.  With yours, you’re celebrating your nerdery, and you can do so in whatever way you want. If people like how you write and how you present yourself, people will continue to show up.

I go back and forth on whether or not I should be more mainstream, but for me, I’d do that for the sake of getting hits. I don’t care about that. I wonder if I should include more “pop culture” stuff, because as you know, I can rattle off a lot of things on Twitter. But what good would that do me, when there are thousands of websites doing the same thing?

For me, if you want to stand out on your own, do it on your own terms. However you shift things around to benefit you and the website, do it.  At times i think “damn, I need to get with Ericka and start a show of some sort”, because you are serious business.  Can I tell you the benefit of Twitter and other social media? I now have people telling me they want to collab on projects. In the 17 years I’ve been online, I’ve been constantly rejected by people who I wanted to work with as a producer. “Nah, that shit is weak”. Tried to gain coverage as a writer, and have been fortunate in having some websites want to publish my work, but nothing “next level”.  I think I continuously work “within my limitations”, which for me is living 200 miles outside of Portland and Seattle, which means I can’t attend live shows, I can’t network with local/regional artists face to face.  But the benefits of being online for the last 17 years is knowing the true power of how to network. You have done this, I know you have.  So whatever you’re doing, do not give that up.

I’m not sure how you work exactly, but my goal is to get out from my “200 miles away” mode and be in the center of any interaction. Being online is great, but I need much more. I’m sure you can relate to that. You have been doing some great stuff with artists over the years, so if this is what you love doing (and I know it is), don’t ever give that up. There is a goal you want to reach, and even if it’s a rough mental sketch of just the word “goal”, keep going for it. I’ve been down and out so many times it’s not funny, and for the first time in a long time, this year has felt like I’m on the lip/edge of something much better.  You are too.  Now let’s hug like Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush and sing “don’t give up”.

Thank you John, for always being wonderful and inspiring.

With all that awesomeness said, yeah… coming up on year two, I just wanna make sure I keep stuff fresh and updated and new. And with the new jobs and things, I wanna make sure that keeping it fun doesnt suck up my life. Its not so much as posting mainstream stuff, fuck the lamestream. and fuck the hits. I just wanna make sure people find it interesting.

And you know, Ive always thought about teamin up with your supermusicnerdery and doing a project, but what the hell are we gonna do? were so nerdy.

And yeah.. Im rounding year 16 on the nets. the one thing Ive learned thus far? Dont talk stupid to people you dont know on the internet. You never know when that dude might just turn out to be… you know. The programming director from MTVJams. LOL. Networking the net is key.

you know, how i work is important. im so disorganized at time. and a lot of taking that break was just to discipline and organize myself again. This site takes a lot of work and research and god thats time consuming. But Im willing to do it if i know mofos give a shit. lol.

*sings peter gabriels dont give up*
      *keeps writing for some reason*
