While on the runs this morning, I stumbled across some awesomeness which confirms the rumors I have been hearing for a while… D’Angelo is now set to start his first tour through America, starting with a performance at the ever-cool Essence Jazz Fest. Great way and great venue to start up with. I won’t be able to attend as I will be on tours of my own, but thats no excuse for all of Louisiana. You should go.
Here’s the goods from OKP who swiped from PK:
D’Angelo is coming home, y’all! Not that he ever left BUT, according to Billboard mag and the Associated Press news-wire, “The reclusive singer will give his first U.S. performance in 10 years at the 2012 Essence Music Festival” in New Orleans this summer. D’Angelo is slated to perform on the opening night of the festival, which runs from July 6-8 and also features Aretha Franklin, Trey Songz, Eve, Charlie Wilson, Keyshia Cole, SWV, Goapele, Estelle and Mary J. Blige (among others) on the bill. That’s all the info we have for the moment although the stateside gig is surely a sign that his comeback LP has a date on a release calendar locked in some secret music industry vault somewheres underground. We will keep you posted but in the meantime, check the full night-by-night line-up for the festival at Essence and purchase tickets here. If ever there was a time to “gold circle,” okayplayers, this is probably it.
This should kickass.
