It has been a long time coming, but laws of life usually dictate good things take a good amount of time to create. In the case of House Shoes and his release of his first album Let It Go, the aforementioned law applies perfectly.
It started back in November, when Shoes sent me some rough drafts of beats he was working on at the time. In all of my shortsighted nerdery, I was so geeked about having new music and quality beats to listen to that I didn’t realize what he sent me was the audio blueprint to his upcoming projects and first album. Wow. Since releasing a proper press release of his Let It Go project on his birthday, Shoes has been flawless from both a musical and business perspective; releasing quality trailers, throwing listening parties and providing sound cloud streams to build hype around the new project. And it is working to his benefit. After releasing The Makings: Part 1 as an introduction to some of his previous works, House Shoes releases The Time EP, our official introduction to some of the music on the new Let It Go project.
Releasing 4 strong tracks from the album and various instrumentals for you to mess around with, Shoes gives us a diverse sampling of tracks to choose from and listen to. Time (feat. Big Tone) is an aggressive, wonderfully drum-heavy intro to catch your attention, while Castles [tHE SKY IS OURS] (feat. Jimetta Rose) is the track that sounds like it was created in love and adoration for someone special (indeed it was – composed for the Late, legendary J-1). Suspended [Instrumental] makes you chair dance for 5 minutes straight, Sweet (feat. Danny Brown) features a deeper, gruffer-voiced Danny on a track that sounds tailored and suited for what he’s into, while No More Mr. Nice Guy seems to serve as a poetic warning to the masses on what House Shoes is now about; musically and personally.
I knew from the jump, when the project was announced, that we were going to get some high quality music from House Shoes. Now its nice to have some confirmation on my foresight. This looks like its going to be a solid album, and I am excited.
Making this release even funner/more intriguing for the music geek inside of you, it looks like House Shoes is only releasing 500 color vinyl copies of the album for formal release. You heard me kids. While there will be digital formats available to purchase, the physical format of this EP looks like a GET IT NOW situation coming up shortly. With a release date of May 22nd, I suggest you stick close to Tres Records for more on how to purchase the physical format of this album.
No, I cannot link up any of the tracks or share anything yet; I respect artists wishes when it comes to distributing their music. But there will be a drop on the Danny Brown track on somebodies website tomorrow which I will link up as soon as I have it.
*Update: ITS TOMORROW! Go to PK for the download.
*Update²:
Speaking of release/listening parties, House Shoes is throwing a release party tomorrow at Turntable Lab LA and selling physical copies of the album in person for you to buy. This is kinda great, as I am into instant gratification, not waiting 4 or 5 days for someone to send me my vinyl online. Check out the information below, and enjoy.
