Ill Camille has been doing her thing on the Los Angeles Hip Hop scene for a WHILE at this point. Already working with legendary DJ/Producers like Battlecat and House Shoes and 9th wonder, Camille has been putting in work for a while, which earned her a mention on the Autostraddle list of Ill Females in Hip Hop. But it wasnt until my girl Ashton pointed out her Pre-Write Mixtape to me… and Camille was nice enough to reach out and share new music with me… that my fascination with this chick grew exponentially.
In comes Camille’s newest track, Goes Down, featuring her boy Punch. What I’ve always wanted for Ill Camille is finally happening for her… being placed on solid, strong beats that give her a chance to show off that flawless, hard hitting lyrical style of hers. On top of sounding great on the track, Camille wastes no time using her lyrical skill to tell true stories of life when shit goes down suddenly and kharma catches up. Her boy Punch also takes an impressive turn on the track for a cohesive musical win. Man. I want her to teach me how to rap.
Anyways, if you havent heard the track yet, go ahead and listen/ pick up that free download below (or click here). Also, if you dont know much about Camille, let me include this well written, awesome PR Release on her, her career up until this point and tentative dates her new project, “The New Nostalgia.”
Bitch is awesome.
Gearing up for her sophomore release iLLUSTRATED, LA’s lady emcee iLL CAMILLE gives us her 2nd official track from the project… ”GOES DOWN”. In what can best be described as a “street-tale” ILL, with the help of TDE’s top man, PUNCHtakes the audience on a journey to other side of the tracks. On this Jairus Mozee produced gem (Bj The Chicago Kid, Lalah Hathaway, Jill Scott) this lyrical pair breakdown the internal and external battles that come with making a dollar…and staying above water.

about iLL CAMILLE.…..
If “iLL CAMILLE” is not a familiar name to you yet, consider this to be your formal introduction. She’s been, what some call, a “refreshing” addition to the ever-growing LA Hip Hop scene, and for the past year writer/emcee,iLL CAMILLE has garnered the attention of some of your favorite rappers, most esteemed producers, and hip hop enthusiasts from both within and outside of the West Coast’s widespread region.
As a “rookie” with perhaps, about 1 and a half under her belt, her resume is quite impressive to say the least. To segue her first 2011 release “THE PRE-WRITE” she enlisted the help of legendary producer Dj Battlecat to bring boom-bap-soaked vision to life on “ALL I KNOW“. Having an uber-solid independent hustle, she later received invites to open for the likes of Pete Rock, Jean Grae, Slum Village x Dwele, and Jay Rock amongst others. Detroit’s Frank Nitt x Dj Houseshoes gave her the opportunity to showoff her lyrical prowess on their “S.T.F.U The Mixtape” mixtape. After that, she hit the stage w/ DJ Trackstar at Atlanta’s A3C Hip Hop Festival as apart of The Smoking Section/ Fadia Kader’s “Perfect Attendance” roster…and was praised for having bar-baiting raps and a “beasty” stage presence. Kendrick Lamar mentioned her as being one of his “favorites” during a May 2011 interview, proclaiming she was “the hardest” across the board. Following an impromptu visit from Terrace Martin during one of her Project Blowed performances,Terrace shared her “MC’s Peep Show” freestyle with his producerial partner, 9th Wonder which would eventually lead to her collaborating with the both of them consistently from that point forward.
A much more seasoned, & lyrically sharp iLL CAMILLE credits her talents to being allowed to her display her versatility as both an emcee and writer. Her contributions to Terrace Martin’s Locke High 2 & Thoughts from Detention projects jump-started her involvement in a host of in-the-works projects with other major artists,on the mic and on the writing side. Starting her 2012 off in proper-fashion she headed to Austin, Texas to perform alongside of her “Mc Mentor”, Kurupt in addition to Terrace & 9th for a series of SXSW performances. iLL CAMILLE: The New Nostalgia
the iLLUSTRATED project coming JUNE 2012
