The name alone is what attracted my interest in her. She showed up at The Bootleg Theatre a few days before Lianne, and she came up in the venue line up on their website. I swear my heart skipped a when I read her name for the first time. Then that dreaded “Oh man. She has most of my name. She’d better not suck” feeling of started to sink in just a bit. Yet sure enough, when I start digging deeper… Simone White does not suck at all. I’m actually falling in love with her, kind of mad that I missed her show, and looking for more music and content on her as we speak.
It all started on her website and on YouTube of course, with me rummaging through clips of her singles from previous albums like The Beep Beep Song and Roses Are Not Red. I was already impressed (and once again, floored how I could miss out on this for about 4 years), but it was Simone’s latest release What The Devil Brings from her new album Silver Silver that has my ears hooked. Only SPIN has the link to the single, and since I dont know how to rip music from sites, you’ll have to head over there to listen to it. Produced by Fol Chen, Simone falls back on the relaxed pop folk/indie sound I had acclimated myself to from her earlier works, and adopts stronger, almost hip hop/soul-ish drums over an upbeat little melody. I love it, and if the rest of the album sounds like that, then I am down for a listen.
*Update: I found a site that is streaming her awesome. Check it below. PLAY #6!
