This is the video that caused the arrest and political persecution of Pussy Riot. Just so you know.

If you know or have been watching the story of Pussy Riot, you already knew they were in Russia pushing several buttons and habitually stepping over several lines. Defiant and vocal against the religious persecution, sexual (orientation included) discrimination and other injustices within their country, Pussy Riot wasted no time using their music as not only a way to speak up, but as a weapon against tyranny. And when we talk tyranny, we talk about things like Russia outlawing Gay Pride parades in their country for 100 years. THAT kind of tyranny.

Just so you know, this video here is the exact reason why Pussy Riot are being held as (what Amnesty International is calling) political prisoners/prisoners of consciousness. They had been doing their thing for a minute throughout Russia with wild shows, open displays of their (Lesbian) sexuality and other awesome shit. After running into Russian law a few weeks previous, Pussy Riot set up their next venture; recording the video for Punk Prayer and creating a protest inside of a very important, local church at the same time. What resulted was their arrest for “Hooliganism” for which they have been held for since.

They are now facing a 7 year sentence for this video.
I’m over at the Guardian, watching their updates on the situation, but it will be interesting to see how and where this goes. We’ve already had the arrest of Chess Grandmaster Gary Kasparov (serious shit) for just showing up at the courthouse where a guilty verdict was just handed down to the girls just about an hour ago. And the internets are starting to catch fire with it.

I’ll continue nerding around this, but just so you know… this is what this is.. and we should all be paying attention to where this is going.
*UPDATED:
….and there you have it. All three members sentenced to 2 years in prison. Each.
Damn. I guess the USSR is back huh.
Hopefully something comes through for these girls, and fast.

*Updated one more time:
…and after being sentenced to 2 years in prison each… Pussy Riot drop their newest single, Putin Lights Up the Fires. It rocks on general principle.

Welp, this is how you get revolution and a successful career in music started.
God Speed to Pussy Riot.
Awesome sentence right there.
