Cee-Lo explains "Fuck You," puts final touches on new album, "Lady Killer."

...and fuck her too.

After finding critical acclaim with the masses with his new single, “Fuck You,” Cee-Lo speaks to his detractors who feel like the song is “Too Much” for contemporary music standards in this AP interview.

“What I’ve tried to accomplish, like, is making art products … so I still believe that (the song) can be classified as art because it’s an original piece and the edge and alternative is there, and the integrity is intact,” he says. And he’s absolutely right.

“The system does not, you know, advocate art so to speak, but it does package and promote products and product placement and there’s a definitive difference between the two, art and product,” he said. “I have yet to sit down and try to write something for the sake of radio. I just never done it, not consciously.” (Good job. Some of the best art is made with total disregard to the masses and what they think of it. Radio airplay included.)

Cee-Lo also goes into what the plan is for editing and prepping the song for any possible airplay it could get (the hook will more than likely be changed to “Forget You.” I say just bleep it out and leave it as is), his new interview/performanced based on Fuse called “Lay It Down,” and his new album, Lady Killer… due out in early show December.

For now, you can catch a download link to the song here, and enjoy the Official Video below.

This will be a short blog, but it must be posted; simply based on the strength of its awesome.

After taking a brief break following his last supercreation with DJ/Producer Danger Mouse, Cee-Lo has completed his new album, titled “Lady Killer….” and he’s back to push the boundaries of  Hip Hop music (Goodie Mob; Outkast)… but he pushes the boundaries and your ideals of what Soul, Retro and Pop-Rock are too.

Currently the greatest song in the history of the world, “Fuck You” is a wonderful combination of the classic Pop-Infused, Retro Soul formula and updated, upfront, fairly harsh, keepin it 100% real witdatass lyrics dedicated to that gold digging bitch you shouldn’t have fallen in love with, and her basic, trickin’ ways. There is basically nothing I can say to describe the greatness that is this song. You just need to listen to it.

Since he’s currently at work at social networking and a Full Video, Cee-Lo has hit us with the temporary Lyric (teaser) Video, breaking down every “Fuck You” for you to see.

Janelle Monae wants to teach you how to Tightrope | B-Side: I'm going to be busy for a minute.

Janelle Monae is back. And bringing dancing with her.
“Tightrope,” the new single and video off her new album “The Archandroid” is filled with some of the funkiest rhythms and horns that I’ve heard since early Outkast albums. No wonder… Big Boi also pops up with an appearance on this track, in which Janelle addresses hatin ass haters, excelling and succeeding regardless, and also puts us on to a cute, fun new dance that I don’t see myself having the coordination to execute anytime soon.

Watch this here:

And tell me that isn’t a nice cut right there.
I gotta hand it to Janelle. Shes got the talent and the sound… and a certain uniqueness that works for her. Hope she can get it to work in her favor.

As for the B-Side…. If you know me, you know I’m kinda busy right now. Theres a lot to do and a lot to get ready for.  And there’s also a lot to write about. There’s the epic win of putting Kaki and Melissa together, Melissa’s awesome movie and an amazing interview on her that I have to link up for you to read, there’s Kaki and Questlove interaction coming up soon; something I’ve been praying for going on 5 years now, Blood Red Shoes and their AMAZING release, Jose James and his awesome Soul/Jazz Release,  Soul Train Line Obsession I have to get out of me, Rachelle Ferrell Live Show Review and News on a new album from her (PRAISE JEBUS), progress (or lack there of) of the VH1Soul/Comcast/NoCal situation,  the format change of MTVJams moving its Jam of the Week start day to Sundays (I’m secretly mad as shit son. How you gonna vote out something that’s been law since MTVJams came into existence?  I should flat-out call Seniority and Nerdery status on you and deny this as a whole) and whatever the hell else comes up. I promise to do all of this while all you awesome, wonderful people who actually read this shit actually still care.

Love to all; God (or whatever you believe in) Is Good.
Pray for Mojo,

Mayer Hawthorne is bringing Retro back. | “Wish it Would Rain” Appreciation.

Crate Digging is AWESOME.

Mayer Hawthorne, a 29-year-old kid out of Ann Arbor, Michigan is making some interesting, high quality retro music right now. And I’m fairly picky about my Retro… if it’s not done right, it ends up sounding contrite and cheesy. But not Mayer. Falling into that “Authentic” range that VV Brown and Dan Brown seem to be wedging themselves into, Mayer channels some of the musical greats like Barry White, Issac Hayes and Curtis Mayfield, and has crafted his own special brand of authentic retro soul that is catchy and undeniable. And with Mark Ronson behind him (the dude that’s responsible for Amy Winehouse’s Epic “Back to Black” album), you know there’s very little fail involved.

A perfect example of this is his new single “Wish It Would Rain” (click that) from his album “A Strange Arrangement.” With a stunning piano arrangement reminiscent of an old Dramatics song, and a melancholy tonality that reminds me of Simply Red’s “Holding Back The Years,” Mayer spills his emotions over a relationship coming to an end… and his desire to hide the overwhelming sadness flooding his heart. Not only is the song itself amazing, but the video compliments it perfectly, giving the viewer get a glimpse into the sadness Mayer is trying to work through. Its one of those videos that made me appreciate the song even more. A rare feat to come by these days.

Definitely worth looking into.

And Mayer or anyone in his camp…. If you read this… I got $20 on the Piano Sheet Music for this song. Seriously. Someone get on that for me. Until then, I’m forced to listen to the instrumental version over and over. Actually… Thats not a horrible concept. LoL.

Have fun.
