Is anyone else noticing the Red Hot Chili Peppers popping up all over the Internets? Yeah.

leave a comment »

Awesome.

In case you didn’t notice…. It looks like the Red Hot Chilli Peppers are gearing up their Social Media game for their new album release, “I’m With You.” Starting a brand new twitter account a few days ago, then tweeting a picture of the boys at a photo shoot to make things official, the new RCHP Twitter seems like this will be the place to get updates on their newest project and other random awesomeness, like their very first trip to Hong Kong. Thought they woulda did that already.

More importantly… they’ve already listed the Tracklisting for their new album. So you know its serious.

Brothers and sisters! Here are the song titles of our new record ‘I’m With You’ Yeeeeah muthafuckas!

1. Monarchy of Roses
2. Factory of Faith
3. Brendan’s Death Song
4. Ethiopia
5. Annie Wants a Baby
6. Look Around
7. The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie
8. Did I Let You Know
9. Goodbye Hooray
10. Happiness Loves Company
11. Police Station
12. Even You Brutus?
13. Meet Me at the Corner
14. Dance, Dance, Dance

There you have it.

For those who are into the old school way of doing things (lolz), you can check out their main website for more. I’ll be staring at their twitter for now.

Enjoy.

The Do-Over + Coachella Afterparty + Adidas Originals Sponsoring = I'm there with my Jeremy Scotts on.

with one comment

If youre in LA, in the 24+ age category and you love Hip Hop, Funk and Soul… then you are probably well aware the epic legacy of The Do-Over. Rocking some of the best Spring and Summer nights of your life, with ever-talented line of DJ’s (Like my emmy-award winning favorite DJ Jedi) rotating in and out to keep it fresh and new.
Now if  you know me, you’ll know that I love Coachella… and the business behind Adidas Originals Fashion line (*turns around; looks at European Jeremy Scotts, smiles inside). So imagine my immediate geekery when finding out that all three of my favorite things are teaming up to throw whats probably going to be a star-studded, party all night, DJ’s saving your life event.

Enough said. Its time for you to check out the flyer, go RSVP, and plan for a good time.

Dear Internets. The D’Angelo Album is REAL. Let me attempt to prove it to you.

with 8 comments

*waits for it...*

This is a powerfully private man who is incredibly illusive.  But if you know me, you know I’ve been all over anything D’Angelo related for his entire musical career, regardless. Even with the 11 year absence and general malarkey, I stayed dedicated. I’d rather wait a thousand years for a theoretical D’Angelo album than to listen to whatever is deemed as “Soul Music” nowadays. Now I know most people believe the release date for his new album to be Neveruary 32, 3011… but there are signs that point to getting an album sooner than that. Like… really really really soon. Let me show you via a plethora of links and my own personal work/connections.

So a few years ago, the rabble rousing started when D’ randomly showed up singing on Snoop Dogg’s “Tha Blue Carpet Treatment” on his track “Imagine.” It was sudden and no one even knew it was coming… which is always the best kind of surprise. A few months after that happened, new material was leaked across the internets… a track called “1000 Deaths.” While it wasnt anything mind-blowing… it was still enough reason for us music nerds to geek out as a whole. And even though we were geeked to spread it, we all fell back after a certain someone came through and reminded us to STFU… as D’ is FIERCELY private with his music, and we probably shouldnt have even heard the song in the first place. Nevertheless… the music was out there. And people started getting excited.

From there, the internet started speaking about Raphael Saddiq reconnecting with D’ on a musical level. Talk of collaborations with Q-Tip began, and a mixtape of sorts was released. While nothing really manifested from this, talk began of D’ holding himself up in Saadiq’s studio and bringing in some great musicians to start working with him. From there, we all kind of left it alone in hopes of not jinxing any type of progress. But just recently, Russ Elevado spoke on the D’Angelo Project, posting the information directly to his personal website. Quote Mr. Elevado:

Happy 2011 and D’Angelo continues…
Best of luck and happiness for the new decade every one!!! Pino Palladino and James Gadson have joined D’Angelo and I in New York City to finish cutting tracks for the upcoming album (yes, “THE” upcoming album!). We are officially making our way to finishing this record! I don’t need to tell everyone that this will be an amazing album. D’Angelo fans will be extremely happy to know, the wait will be over soon and it will surely be a future classic…

Once that was posted, the nerds went to work on having this confirmed… and of course… it turns out that everything IS looking real. (#thatsite)

But fu*k all of that. The final word for me? Ben Kane… A great, trustworthy, long time friend and I have been in contact for a while regarding our love for music… and the work that he is currently putting in as D’Angelo’s studio engineer. For us, it started about a year ago when Ben and D’Angelo were looking for footage of his old concerts for use as reference. Of course, I popped up with DVD footage of D’ live in Brazil. From there, Ben was sweet enough to contact me himself, quickly explained and proved who he was, and asked for a copy of said DVD on behalf of D’Angelo. With the proof and credentials he showed (he also did Al Green’s “Lay It Down,” dude is OFFICIAL), I wasted no time making a duplicate and sending it off to them. From there, we touched base occasionally on what was going on, and what he could share with me.

Fast-foward to a few days ago when I contacted Ben on behalf of LaToiya Williams to see if he was interested in engineering and mastering her new music (we’ve both been plotting that one out for a while). Now of course he can’t speak on exactly whats going on, and I wouldn’t ask him to. But he did tell me outright that he would LOVE to hop on LaToiya’s album…. however,  he is currently preoccupied with mastering and completing D’Angelo’s album. And I believe him fully. And I definitely dont want to interrupt. However, we have agreed that once he is done with his work, that he will sit down with me and give me the full 411 as to what hes been up to, his future projects, and speak on what he can regarding the D’Angelo album. And I. CANT. WAIT.
Now you don’t have to believe me, and I can understand why you wouldn’t… its been 11 years. But there’s a LOT of evidence here that points to New Album coming fairly soon. And clearly, I can’t wait.
If I hear more… I will most definitely keep you updated.
And keep your fingers crossed on that Ben Kane interview. It will have some goodies, for SURE.

Seriously. Who knew hipster white kids were so awesome with samples and beat making? The more I dig up on them, the better these kids get.  Check This Out:

Not only is their new video for the song fairly awesome while stepping on some lines and pushing some boundaries…

…it really is a nice sample they chopped up right quick.

Just wanted to point that out right quick, if no one else has already.
Enjoy.

I Really Really REALLY like Wait For Green. Lemme explain their awesome right quick. Links:

I like these guys. I really, really kinda like these guys. Genuinely. And since I can’t Party with them tonight, I wanted to write them up a quick little something.

I’m happy (and lucky) I found these kids this early in the game… and kinda surprised their sound isn’t spreading like wildfire. I found Wait for Green randomly on Facebook when their ad popped up on the side of my page, offering “An Awesome New (Ska/Rock) Sound” and comparing them to a “Blend of Incubus and 311.” Now the first thought out of my Nerdish/Borderline Music Snobbish brain was “Man, GTEFOHWTBS. Nothin is coming CLOSE to them cats.” So I clicked on the link and listened to what they had to offer with full intention to hate… and got slapped in the face with a nice hunk of humble pie. Not only are these kids decent… they’re actually really, REALLY good. And when they said they are a blend of 311/Incubus, they weren’t bullsh*tting. This is if Cali Rock, Ska Music, Hyper-Melodic Guitar work, Funk Bass lines and Wonderful vocals mated. Lead singer Drew Dockerill’s voice is like a combo of Brandon Boyd and Nick Hexum’s tone with a Antony Kiedis/Bradley Nowell rapping-like delivery.

I was lucky to catch a show a few months back at Roxy on Sunset a few months back when their manager Patrick Cahill (you’re a sweetie pie dude, thanks for everything) guest-listed me so that we could connect on a Social Media tip. And it was definitely worth the trip, as Rafael Britto (Lead Guitar), AJ Larson (Bass, Vocals), Danny Morledge (Drums, Percussion) and Drew sound really great live (important to me) and have a great, energetic stage presence. They aren’t too bad on record either. And to top that, their track “Day One” will be featured on “Chase…” February 9th at 8C/9PM EST on NBC.

So to prove their coolness, Patrick caught the boys working on some new material, and was able to catch an acoustic version (I LOVE ACOUSTIC MUSIC) for the world to enjoy. This clip makes the talent pretty obvious. Just give it a spin.

And their first attempts at Music Videos. LoLz.

If you like, and you’re not doing anything tonight, go see them Live at The Roxy. Its good times. As they make more music and I get access to it, I’ll post it up. Maybe I’ll be lucky enough to score an interview. We’ll see.

Enjoy.
