The legacy of us sneaking cameras into concerts lives on. :D

This is a short post, but I wouldn’t post it if it wasn’t fairly awesome.
Katy does her versions of everyone pop favorites, including her best friend’s song for her birthday.
I blame Elle B.
Kinda adorable. Check it out.

Echoplex and KCRW have been winning lately. (Aloe Blacc and Henry Rollins Dates:)

I need a dollar too.

For some reason, Echoplex and KCRW have teamed up to start offering tons of musical wins for either side of the musical spectrum. These are the two that I’m headed out to.

On Friday –
12.03.10: Echo, KCRW & The Do Over Present Aloe Blacc and The Grand Scheme

Aloe Blacc finally brings his genuine soul-stirring, retrotastic music to Los Angeles with the help of KCRW, and brought his band, The Grand Scheme to help him out. Once you combine and mix all that awesome with the fact that this is also a Do-Over sponsored event… I’m kinda geeked. Looking forward to this one… a couple of friends are going and were all set to meet at a venue I love. There’s very little way to lose tomorrow with this set up.

You can check out if tickets are still available here, alone with some of Echo’s other shows.

Next Up?
Henry Rollins – Rare Cuts and Conversation (One-Time Only Event)

Thursday, December 9 at 8pm at Echoplex
**Tickets On Sale Wednesday, November 17**

From the Announcement:

For the first time, Los Angeles public radio station KCRW (89.9FM and KCRW.com) will shine a spotlight on our most well-known DJ Henry Rollins, in a one-of-a-kind live event.

On Thursday, December 9 at 8pm, KCRW will present an exclusive listening party at the Echoplex which will serve as a benefit for the station. Rollins has been searching his musical vaults and will come armed with top selections from his personal music collection – some of which have never been heard before — to share with fans. In a living room-style setting, anecdotes in tow, he’ll share a night of unforgettable tunes and stories.

“I will play stuff that I am unable to on my regular show, due to the rare nature of the material. I have been planning the set for weeks and am so excited to be able to get some truly unique tracks to your ears,” said Rollins. “Basically, the Echoplex will be my living room, you are the guests and I am playing some of my coolest cuts from decades of gathering, complete with the story around the track and its acquisition.”

Now that sounds like fun.

For now, you can watch this, plan out your ticket purchase carefully (since this will probably sell out quick), and have fun.

Mayer Hawthorne at The Music Box Hollywood: 11.12.10.

Good nights were had here.

Another wonderful show, another wonderful experience, another randomly awesome story.

A couple of weeks ago, I checked the network and saw that Mayer Hawthorne was coming into town. Initially I was excited to see if I could get to it. I’ve been a long time fan (as most of you already know here), and have yet to see him live. But after realizing that several of my friends/concert buddies would be busy and wouldn’t be able to come with me, I would be about a week out of jaw surgery… and onslaught of deadlines, I kinda ruled it out. I was sad, but I realized there was work to do.

That was until my good friends (@MOSologist) and @JacksonPerry talked me into entering their Mazda 2 contest that was connected to the tour. They did the marketing for the Concert, and signing up would be basically helping out friends with business. How could I say no? Figuring the chances of me actually WINNING this thing were REALLY slim, I signed up as a good look for my people. Anything I can do to help is the motto, basically.

Welp, that must be a wonderful motto to hold onto… because I actually WON this contest. LMAO. Amazing. I actually found out the same day that I went to see Conan’s first show for the second time. (Yeah. You like that.) And after letting my friend know that I had actually won… they went the extra step and made sure I was well taken care of at the show. And I’ll always appreciate that. Especially post mouth surgery. :)

In short: Great show, Wonderful night. My first Mayer Hawthorne show and I am impressed. One of those concert shows and presentations that makes you appreciate the music more in Live format than you do Album format. Songs come alive and sound different with the amazing band he has behind him (also known as The County). Energetic, engaging and genuine. Debuted 3 new songs at the show for the audience. Also had his dancers from his video “Your Easy Lovin Ain’t Pleasin’ Nothin'” on stage with him as background dancers (adorable), as well as some witty stage banter for an all around entertaining show. Both the Pre-Show and After Party set ups were very nice, with Mayer signing items for fans (Got the CD signed for the physical format win), and DJ’ing after the show with his friends and business partners around. He was also sweet enough to connect me to Quincy, the only person who might be able to transpose “I Wish It Would Rain” to Piano Sheet Music for me (get on that man, I need that “authentic” sound). A productive night, with Seth Green, DJ Babu and Esperanza Spalding roaming around a great afterparty for the overall win.

Here go your photos. I think I did decent with my Droid and its 5 megapixels. And the video for Mayer Hawthorne’s Your Easy Lovin Ain’t Pleasin Nothin’. Shoutout to Olivia Orozco  for your amazing choreography. You are a winner girl.

What a win. In the tradition of obnoxiously recording every concert you ever go to, someone in Tel Aviv actually recorded part of Kaki’s show. Several people caught several parts, actually. And its all great footage.

First, thhkkuh got some nice film of Kaki jamming with Tamar Eisenman, and the first part of her show.

GpGemini got some HD footage going too. Good job man.

Enjoy.
